Exclusive::: JAY -R talks about Himself, Music, Family and Ministry with NaijagospelBeats @PashTim

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: May we meet you sir, what are your full names?
Jay-R: It's Isaiah Sam-Amaga Jr....

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: And your stage name is Jay-R?
Jay-R: Yup

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: Great! We've witnessed a lot of your stage performances and I can't help but wonder, what gives him so much energy and good lyrics? Please tell us: what inspires you?

Jay-R: All ma inspiration comes from God...I'm thankful 4 the energy God gave me and the versatility to be able to flow lyrically on any level worldwide.

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: So tell us about Sam Amaga Entertainment:
Jay-R: Sam-Amaga Entertainment...real name no gimmicks...Its a gospel label dats all about pushing gospel Music to the front line on every platform. Been in existence since 2003, Started reppin from all d way from Basildon Essex all the way to brixton south london...Now I'm in Abuja doing it bigger than ever. Sam Amaga Entertainment is also about mentoring d next generation of gospel artist that will run with the torch.

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: Those are great goals there. Well, we do know that the name Jay-R is a household name in the Nigerian Gospel industry. Tell us, how do you think the gospel industry can improve to ensure that they reach the standard of the western world. We are talking about the Nigerian gospel industry now.

Jay-R: Well its simple...only two things are needed...
1. Mentoring....the problem we have is every gospel artist is a boss...no one is learning from no one. We have a lot of gospel artist under-achieving because of ignorance. They don't have a clue what the industry is about so they keep putting garbage and call it gospel music. The few gospel musicians who have made it are not opening the doors for other underground artist to make it. So it’s a mess. Churches should also do more to make sure their youth arms are mentoring hubs for young talented members of their churches...platforms should be given for these young stars to express themselves otherwise they will run from the church to secular music..We see it happening everywhere.

2. Standardization: if we claim that our God is greater than the world, then we should represent his greatness through the music we put out..Radio stations and TV stations are flinging out gospel artist because their music is not up to par...The kind of production nonsense..The mixing is crap. The beats are worse. Yet gospel musicians expect to get radio play..When the videos are pitiful...they use camera phones to shoot videos in gardens...and they expect to win channel O awards...We as gospel artists should teach ourselves standards...success and prosperity don't answer to prayers alone..They answer to principles..and these secular artists are working hard to put out d best standards..so why won't they be successful? If a gospel artist can find a good producer who knows the industry..and pay well..I don't mean 8k per session..I mean pay well for good production...den we stand a chance of radio play..

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: That really got me laughing! But its really true yea, this are things we see everyday. So on the part of the upcoming artists, what would you advice they do to achieve their dreams?

Jay-R: They should save well enough and be patient to have enough money for a good standard video..then tv stations will accept gospel materials with open arms..For up and coming artists..they should give up pride and stop calling themselves bosses when they haven't achieved anything..they should humble themselves and attach to someone who has made it and LEARN! Wizkid is who he is because Banky mentored him So if we apply the same principle then more up and coming guys wil make it.

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: That's right! Those are real analysis you've got. So what's new? Anything new you want us to hear from you?

Jay –R : I aint recorded since after 2000BC..but lemme leak something to you...Me and Samsong are joining forces to do an Ep album we title BEST OF BOTH GOSPELS!

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: Wow! From the title, we already have an insight to what will be drawn out of the studio. We understand you are a very busy person sir, how do you cope with entertainment, church and family at the same time?

Jay – R: My life is split into 3...my music..my family and my ministry..and the honest truth is that there's no special fomula for coping with all 3...it has a huge effect on my health. But God blessed me with a wife who understands as well as works with me as a partner in all 3 aspects of my life. She accompanies me for shows...she sits to criticize my work in studio and sorts out my calendar for shows..and she's my direct assistant pastor in the church were I'm based..I couldn't ask for a better wife.

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: That's really favor you know because it’s not everyone in the industry who can actually boast of having an understanding partner talk more of a an understanding WIFE!

Naijagospelbeats@Pash: Thanks a lot for honouring our interview sir, we feel honoured! We'll see more of you.
